La Esperanza está ubicado en algún lugar de la Argentina. Aislado en los 90s tras el desmantelamiento ferroviario, ahora en el pueblo han quedado toneladas de chatarra electrónica. De la idea de una gran planta de reciclado electrónico que dinamizaría al pueblo, quedó simplemente un basural.
Un documentalista llega al pueblo tras los pasos de un grupo de jóvenes que manipula esta chatarra de una forma extraña. Al parecer, colocan los dispositivos obsoletos sobre animales para controlarlos a través de una inteligencia artificial o algo parecido. Como si fuera un videojuego, los jóvenes logran incidir sobre las conductas de los animales y acelerar su crecimiento. Si bien los animales se comportan de una forma extraña, la tecnología parece dar buenos resultados y algunos pobladores se animan a probar, buscando mejores rendimientos.
Una noche, una inexplicable luz roja se ve en el cielo, y los animales sencillamente, desaparecen, así sin más. El pueblo pierde su principal fuente de trabajo y alimento. Las teorías conspirativas, la incertidumbre y el miedo se apoderan del pueblo.
En un registro documental, de entrevistas y voz en off, la película explora las relaciones entre lo virtual y lo real, entre lo orgánico y lo digital, entre lo útil y lo obsoleto. Cómo conviven el desarrollo y la precariedad, los sistemas orgánicos con los digitales.
La película se inscribe en un contexto donde las tecnologías emergentes tensionan, ya no nuestras conductas, sino la idea misma de qué y quiénes somos. Una nueva revolución que algunos miran esperanzados y otros alertan que podría ser el último paso antes del abismo.

A documentary filmmaker arrives in the village following the steps of a group of young people who handle this scrap in a strange way. Apparently, they place the obsolete devices on animals to control them through an artificial intelligence or something similar. As if it were a video game, the young people manage to influence the animals' behavior and accelerate their growth. Although the animals behave strangely, the technology seems to work well and some villagers are encouraged to try it, looking for better yields.
